As Headteacher of Stepping to the Summit, I am delighted to welcome you to our Pupil Referral Centre, where all young people are put at the heart of their own learning journey. We understand the unique challenges of pupils who have faced exclusion and trauma, and we are committed to providing a safe, caring and high quality environment where all learners feel valued, respected and supported to reach their full potential.

Our service is based on a foundation of belonging, respect and hope. We recognize each pupil as an individual with their own voice, strengths and experiences. By working together with families, schools and the wider community, we aim to create a strong sense of belonging and empowerment, enabling all learners to build confidence and skills for their future.

We are committed to developing curriculum and assessment frameworks tailored to the needs of our pupils, ensuring progress and positive outcomes in their education and in their lives. Thank you for trusting us to support your pupils and for working together with us on this important journey. Together, we can help young people overcome obstacles and step confidently towards success.

How can the service be accessed?

The school needs to make a reference to the Area Forum if it wishes to have input for the pupil from the Inclusion Service.

Before making a referral to the forum, it is important that the school has taken action at school level and responded gradually in order to meet the needs of the learners

What is the school's role?

All schools are expected to offer opportunities to support and develop learners' emotional, social and behavioral skills.

Schools should:

  • Set up individual motivation systems for the learners as needed.
  • Access to emotional literacy provision/intervention.
  • Respond gradually to pupils' needs.
  • Develop a learning environment that is friendly and inclusive for individuals with emotional, social and behavioral difficulties.
