Accessibility statement for adyach.cymru

This accessibility statement applies to adyach.cymru / Cyngor Gwynedd website.

There’s a separate accessibility statement for the main Cyngor Gwynedd website. All our content which is essential to providing our services is accessible.

This website is run by Cyngor Gwynedd. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts using browser or device settings
  • navigate most of the website using a keyboard or speech recognition software
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

It is possible to change text size by changing the settings in your browser:

Microsoft Edge: to enlarge a single web page, select Settings and more and then choose Zoom in , Zoom out , or Full screen .
Windows Internet Explorer (including Pocket IE): use the View - Text Size menu
Firefox and other Mozilla browsers: use the View - Text Size menu
Safari: use the View - Make Text Bigger option
Opera: use the View – Style – User Mode
Macintosh Internet Explorer and Netscape 6 and 7: use the View - Text Zoom menu

If you use a wheel-mouse, you may be able to change the text size by holding down the Control or Command key and turning the wheel.

In some browsers you can change the text size using Control or Command and the + and - keys. 

 

You can also specify the font styles, colours, foreground and background colours:

Microsoft Edge: In Windows 11, select Start   > Settings   > Accessibility  > Contrast themes.

How accessible this website is

We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible:

  • some images do not have good alternative text
  • most PDF documents are not fully accessible to screen reader software 
  • some of our older videos may not feature captions

Technical information about this website’s accessibility

Cyngor Gwynedd is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

 

Compliance status

The website has been tested against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standard.

This website is partially compliant with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard, due to the non-compliances and exemptions listed below.

 

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Some images do not have a text alternative, so people using a screen reader cannot access the information. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.1.1 (non-text content). We aim to add text alternatives for all images by January 2025. When we publish new content we’ll make sure our use of images meets accessibility standards.

Some video content is present without the inclusion of captions, audio descriptions or and/ media alternatives. This fails the WCAG 2.2 A success criterion 1.2.2 Captions, 1.2.3 Audio Description or Media Alternative, and the WCAG 2.2 AA success criterion 1.2.5 Audio description or Media Alternative. We aim to resolve this issue by September 2025.

Some content fully visible for users in certain circumstances. At 200% zoom, once the 'Select language' has been expanded, its content is partially cut off and not fully visible for users. It is not possible for us to rectify this as the language selector is a 3rd party plugin provided by Google, and does not provide a consistent selector. Therefore we are unable to target it to modify the styling. This fails WCAG 2.2 AA success criterion 1.4.10 (reflow).

Frames must have an accessible name – the 'Select language' frame is a 3rd party plugin which is generated dynamically therefore we are unable to edit it’s HTML value. This fails WCAG 2.2 AA success criterion 4.1.2. (Name, Role, Value). 

 

What we’re doing to improve accessibility

New documents we publish on this website should be fully accessible.

However, we know that some of our older documents (published before 23 September 2018) are not accessible.

For example, some of them:

  • are not marked up in a way that allows screen reader users to understand them
  • are not written in plain English

Some of these are historic documents and are not essential to providing our services. The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services. We do not currently have any plans to make them accessible.

Preparation of this accessibility statement

 This statement was prepared on 14 May 2019. It was last updated on 15 May 2024.

This website was last tested on 10 April 2024. The test was carried out internally by Cyngor Gwynedd IT Service.

In March 2024, the UK Government Digital Service conducted an audit of a representative sample of our pages, from which a number of common accessibility issues were identified and fixed.
